Ready, Set, Go! Summer Yang Meets Jupiter

By Rachel Condon, Lic. Ac.

Summer is the most Yang time of the year.  We see this all around us, in our hemisphere… from the longest day of sunlight, to the abundance in our gardens and farm fields, veggies and fruits and flowers galore!

Yang is active, it’s fiery and quick, its energy is to rise up and out, and it’s about expressing ourselves. From outdoor concerts to festivals and backyard cookouts, it’s a time to be out and about; playing and sharing are encouraged and celebrated, and for many of us, it goes by all too fast.

As an acupuncturist, I am apt to observe common patterns of Yang energy rising up in the body in summer as well. This can present in a variety of ways, including increased headaches, allergy-type symptoms in the head, face, and throat, dizziness, and vertigo. But it can also show up in plenty of other ways, depending on the individual’s constitution.

For example, someone who might be lacking in digestive “fire” may struggle with loose stool and/or bloating in the summer months; with the increased consumption of salads and smoothies, the body will struggle to digest the cold foods, because of the lack of fire. Another person, who tends to have extra heat in their system, will run into more heat-related issues in the summer, like excessive sweating, swelling, and even insomnia and constipation.

As some of you know, I’ve been doing a deep dive into studying astrology for the past year or so. And am so looking forward to bringing this into my work offerings later this year!  I wanted to note an important astrological energy that’s going to amplify that summer Yang.

In Astro terms, I’m talking about Jupiter going into Gemini.  What that means, broadly, is a LOT more communications may be happening!  While many of us already feel that, this takes it to the next level. Jupiter, the biggest planet, brings expansive, loud, lucky energy to the party.

Whether you are trying to keep up with your favorite podcasts, instagram reels, news updates, or your convos at your local farmers markets and live concerts… there’s a LOT going on!

We’re apt to feel this more strongly over the next month or so, because Jupiter just went into Gemini on May 25, and will be in that very social, intellectual sign until June 2025.

Time to circle back now… summer. Lots of Yang energy. Activity. Fun. Play. Being outside. Socializing. Add in Jupiter in Gemini. Heightened mental stimulation, and along with it a desire to share and communicate with others.

Enter in… a need for balance. Slowing down. Giving your nervous system a rest. And maybe your muscles too.

What do YOU need to do to slow down? More naps? Less time reading the news? A no phones rule at the dinner table? An afternoon with an actual paperback book on a hammock?

Maybe it’s adding in more acupuncture, massage or energywork.

Let us help you slow down, and allow yourself to receive, which also builds Yin. You’ll thank yourself in the fall, when it’s time to focus and get organized again. Come see us!

Rachel practices at CLINIC offering community acupuncture on Mondays and Tuesdays, 12-5, and Saturdays 1-5. She offers private sessions on Wednesdays 10-3, and Saturdays 10-1.
